A Cochlear Implant is a small complex device that can help to provide a sense of sound to deaf or severely hard of hearing people. The Implant consists of an external portion that sits directly behind the ear and an internal portion that is surgically implanted under the skin. The external and internal parts of the Implant work together to bypass the part of the ear that isn't working to send the sound straight into the hearing nerve.
